Before starting to write a resume you should take into consideration that there are different resume styles. It does not depend on the paper it is typed on or a font of typing, etc. A resume style means a way of information organizing and accentuating certain facts included. There are three basic resume styles.
The first one is a chronological resume style that is a list of jobs and your working achievements in chronological order. This is the most widespread of all the resume styles. It gives a good picture of your working biography that is convenient for your employer's analysis. But sometimes it can include the facts that can make an unfavorable impression of you (if, for example, you have changed a lot of jobs or the working experience of the position you are applying for dates back to long time ago).
If you would like to give emphasis to your professional skills, experience and achievements, but not just give a list of your jobs, you should better use a functional resume style where you can omit the period of your working on this or that position or mention it in general. It helps you to attract attention to the most important aspects of your career and to omit the facts your would like to hide (for example the periods of unemployment).
Finally, there is a combination of those resume styles – functional-chronological resume. It lets to get adequate impression of both your qualifications and working biography. But you can break this chronological order and put the most prominent achievements and positions to the first places.
Thus, any of these resume styles can be of good use for you. You should just decide which of them would be more winning for getting the position you are applying for. But remember: choosing a proper resume style can make you closer your dream or destroy it if you make a mistake.
